2022 Project of Sediment Quality Administration

Absrtact
The purpose of this project is to assist the Environmental Management Administration to achieve yearly goal of implementation of contaminated sediment management strategy. In total, 253 submitted sediment sampling plans and 354 reports of sediment quality survey were reviewed and revised. Assistance was provided in systematically contacting competent authorities of water bodies that had not yet completed the regular monitoring of sediment quality, promoting them to fulfill the sediment quality regular monitoring within the deadline. This project also collected regular monitoring of sediment quality exceeded the upper limit of Taiwan sediment guidelines. Simultaneously, 13 water bodies which exceeded the upper limit were selected for conducting sediment investigations as demonstration operations, aiming to understand the causes of pollution. Sediment quality management must comprehend its environmental characteristics and long-term trend changes. In order to better manage sediment, ‘The sediment quality reviewed and revised system’ and ‘Regular monitoring of sediment quality open data website’ were renewed and optimized. Sediment data from two rounds and environmental information were collected to establish interactive charts, geographic information system(GIS), and regional analysis functionalities. This project also included the creation of one copy of sediment-protecting flyers in order to increase the use of sediment information. In order to the recent development of unique high-tech industries domestically, seven locations in science parks receiving effluents into water bodies were selected. The environmental context for emerging metals such as Gallium, Indium, Thallium, Molybdenum, Tungsten, Cobalt, Silver ware investigated. This project also gathered information on sediment quality management and actual sediment assessment cases from Korea and United State. Based on practical issues and experiences in sediment quality management over the years, this project also revised ‘Regulations for classified management and used restriction of bottom sediment quality indicators’ and ‘Regulations for regularly test sediment quality resulting data by the industry competent authorities ’ of the proposed agreement.
